When turning long wood usually the center of the ends of the workpieceso that as much of the workpiece material as possible can be used for shaping.
Also the turning of bowls and plates (cross-timber turning) the same principle is often applied.
Once the center has been found, this serves as a marking for hammering the center of the driver or for drilling the hole for holding the tailstock center (= counter point for long wood turning).
This is very easy with a square workpiece:
You connect 2 opposite corners; the two diagonals meet exactly in the middle!
This does not require a center finder, but with the REDEX center finder, the exact center is found even faster!
This is where the center finder comes into play:
At least twice at different points lines are marked, whose intersection forms the center of the workpieceIf the workpiece is exactly round, 2 lines are sufficient (preferably if drawn at right angles).
The less round a workpiece is, the more lines you should draw - and these lines then more or less form a circle in the middle - the center of the workpiece then lies in the center of this circle.
With the REDEX center finder and a pencil, this is child's play and can be drawn very accurately in a few seconds.
If the REDEX center finder is too small for your project, you can also build a center finder of any size yourself.
The dimensions of the REDEX center finder:
The long diagonal is (outside): approx. 19.5 cm
The short diagonal is (outside): approx. 17.0 cm
The height is approx. 15 mm
